In addition to designing and selling a special wristband that has raised $1.5 million and contributing a cut to the “Songs for Japan” charity album, the singer has signed on to perform at the June 25 MTV Japan benefit show for the Japanese Red Cross at the Makuhari Messe convention center in Chiba, located just outside of Tokyo.

The show is titled the MTV Video Music Aid Japan and serves as both the culmination of the network’s Music of Hope campaign and the 10th annual MTV Japan Video Music Awards.
This year’s show will be hosted by the 48-member girl idol collective AKB48.

MTV has said that Music of Hope was “designed to inspire and rally young people to contribute time or funds to recovery and rebuilding efforts, featuring inspirational music videos, live performances, artist interviews, exclusive news and stories about artists and young people who have been impacted by the disaster.”

It will be broadcast live over MTV networks in Japan, South Korea, China and Southeast Asia.
It will also be reduced to a one-hour program that will be shown on other MTV channels throughout the world.
