Sandra Bullock sends $1 million for Japan

(CNN) — Actress Sandra Bullock sent a $1 million donation to the American Red Cross this week to help with earthquake and tsunami relief efforts in Japan, the Red Cross said Thursday.
It is the largest celebrity donation to the Red Cross to be announced since the disaster struck last Friday, although the charity may have gotten large contributions that were kept confidential at the donors’ request. more
My friends and colleagues in Japan were telling me how social media (Facebook and Twitter) were not widely used in the work environment. After the disasters in Japan, they realized how important social media is to finding out up-to-date news, “getting the word out”, and connecting with friends and family. These tragedies have brought many of us closer together.
